Ask us about your insurance coverage →Care that looks at the whole picture
Most dental visits look at teeth. Ours look at how the whole system works together: how you breathe, how you sleep, how your jaw grows, how your tongue rests. It is called airway-centric dentistry, and it changes what we catch early.
A child who snores. A teen with a narrow palate. An adult who grinds through their sleep. These are signs most practices miss and ours is built to catch.

Wholesome, gentle care
Gentle cleanings, amazing hygienists, and Oral Genome saliva testing for a whole-health picture.

Airway-centric care
Breathing and sleep as part of every exam, at every age.

Dr. Mandeep Johal
Whole-body wellness begins with the mouth. Dr. Johal believes in treating the underlying problems that cause symptoms in the mouth, while ensuring that work done in the mouth does not have adverse effects on overall health.
She treats people of all ages, with expertise in breathing disorders, facial development, nutrition, the dental and postural connection, and tongue ties. She also has additional training in infant, children, and adult dental and airway development.
Her down-to-earth nature and passion for what she does will show you why her patients refer their family and friends to her. She stands by her core values for her practice and her life, and loves sharing and educating about holistic health.

Dr. Minhas
Outside the office, Dr. Minhas loves to explore and cook cuisines from around the world. She brings that same curiosity and care to looking after her patients.

Dr. Khan
Hi, I'm Dr. K, and I'm so excited to be an associate dentist at Family Dental Centre! I grew up in Mississauga before attending Western University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science with an Honours Specialization in Medical Sciences. I then completed my Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Toronto, graduating with honours.
After graduation, I relocated to Guelph, and I feel incredibly fortunate to begin my career at Family Dental Centre with the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Johal. One of my favourite parts of dentistry is getting to know patients from all walks of life. I especially enjoy working with children, but I welcome patients of all ages and strive to make every visit as comfortable and positive as possible.
Outside the office, I love reading, travelling, spending time with friends, and exploring everything Guelph has to offer.

Katelyn
I knew I wanted to be a dental hygienist ever since bring-your-kid-to-work day in grade nine. Helping patients feel at ease and leave with a healthier smile is still my favourite part of the job.

Ewa
When she isn't in the office, Ewa loves to travel. This year took her to Europe, and closer to home you'll find her on motorcycle trips with her husband. Patients know her for a gentle, unhurried approach at every visit.

Leah
I'm passionate about making dental visits as comfortable and positive as possible. I enjoy getting to know my patients, providing thorough, evidence-based care, and helping people achieve healthier smiles through education and prevention.
Fun fact: when I'm not at work, I'm usually working out, exploring the outdoors with my dachshund Bruno, or planning my next trip.

Sara
Outside of work, Sara is a proud cat mom to two. She brings that same easygoing, caring nature to everyone in her chair.

Richel
I'm the go-to dental assistant in the clinic who spends all day talking about ortho, then I go home to my 3 boys and spoil them with home-cooked meals. When I'm not helping create beautiful smiles, you'll find me binge-watching K-dramas. Unlike K-drama, braces should have a happy ending, with no broken brackets!

Iwona

Amiti
Good food is what recharges my battery. I bring that same energy to making sure every patient feels looked after.

Kheila
Shinea
Ashley
Fizaa
From cakes to cookies to every kind of dessert, I love baking for my friends, family, and for my small business. I bring that same care and attention to detail to the patients I help each day.

Maridol
I've been keeping the front desk running smoothly for 8 years, handling orthodontics, finances, and the office's more complex cases. I'm the go-to for answers, problem solving and snacks. If I don't know the answer, I probably know who does!

Paige
Ask around the office and you'll hear that Paige is the resident karaoke star. Warm and easy to talk to, she brings a friendly energy that patients and coworkers pick up on right away.

Marsha
On the weekends, you'll usually find Marsha watching NASCAR with her family. At the front desk, she's a friendly, familiar face who's always happy to help.

Autumn
I grew up on a lake up North, about ten hours from Guelph. I love getting to know our patients and helping every visit run smoothly.
Taz
Hi, I'm Taz! As one of eight siblings (thanks mom), I learned early on how to connect with all kinds of personalities, solve problems, and keep a sense of humour. I love creating a comfortable, welcoming experience for my patients and building genuine relationships along the way.
I've had the incredible honour of being part of this amazing team and working alongside Dr. Johal over the past couple of years. Outside of the office, I love travelling, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new foods. If we chat on the phone, you might even hear me sign off as the Tasmanian Devil!

Michelle has a special interest in supporting infants with tethered oral tissues and the feeding challenges that can result from oral restrictions. She works closely with families to ensure they have a thorough understanding of treatment options, are able to make informed decisions regarding their baby's care, and are provided with appropriate follow-up.
Outside of her practice, Michelle enjoys gardening, spending time in nature, and crafting. She is thrilled to be able to connect with families at Family Dental Centre.
Guelph families put it better than we can
By far the most welcoming dentist I have ever been to. Dr. Johal and her staff were fantastic and explained every step from beginning to end. No pressure, just genuine care.
Dr. Johal has been instrumental in helping me. The mouthguard she suggested for clenching at night has been a real difference. I sleep better and have far less neck and shoulder pain.
Exceptional patient care, communication, and education. Brighter days ahead thanks to their wisdom. I can rely on the Family Dental Centre team for guidance.
Before your first visit
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes. New patient exams are available within 1-2 weeks (sometimes sooner), and we book family appointments back to back so one trip covers everyone.
We already have a dentist. Is switching a hassle?
No. Once you book, we request your records from your previous office for you. You just show up.
Do you accept CDCP?
Yes, for eligible patients. Bring your CDCP member card to your first visit and we will confirm your coverage tier and explain any co-pay before treatment starts.
Do you bill my insurance directly?
Yes, we bill most major insurance plans directly, so you only pay your portion at the visit.
Am I eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?
You likely qualify if your household income is under $90,000 a year, you do not have private or employer-provided dental insurance, and you are a Canadian resident with a valid SIN. Coverage is rolling out in phases and is expanding to all eligible Canadians. If you are not sure, our team can help you check.
How much will I pay under the CDCP?
It depends on your household income. The plan covers the full cost if your household income is below $70,000, with a 40% co-pay between $70,000 and $79,999, and a 60% co-pay between $80,000 and $89,999. We confirm your co-pay, if any, before treatment so there are no surprises.
What does the CDCP cover at our office?
Most routine and essential care is included: checkups, cleanings, fillings, extractions and emergency care, preventative care for children, care for seniors, and dentures and major restorative work (some may need pre-approval). Cosmetic services like whitening are not covered, and orthodontics is not available under the plan yet. We direct bill the CDCP, so you do not handle the paperwork.
How do I apply for the CDCP?
Applying is simple. Check your eligibility on the official CDCP website, gather proof of income and residency, and apply through Service Canada. Once approved, you will receive a welcome package with your coverage start date. After that, book your appointment with us and bring your CDCP member card to your first visit. Call the office anytime and we will walk you through it.
What happens at a first visit?
A full exam, any x-rays that are actually needed, a cleaning if time allows, and a conversation. We want to know how you sleep and breathe, not just how you brush. You leave with a clear picture and a plan, and nothing is booked without your say-so.
How early should my child see a dentist?
Earlier than most parents expect: within six months of the first tooth, or by their first birthday. Early visits are short and gentle, and they let us catch things like ties and airway issues while they are easiest to address.
What if I’m nervous about the dentist?
You are in good company, and you will not be judged. Tell us when you book and we will go at your pace. For patients who need more help relaxing, we offer sedation options.
Is parking easy?
Yes, free parking on-site at 1482 Gordon Street.
On Gordon Street, in the heart of Guelph.
New patients are warmly welcomed. Tell us a little about why you are coming in and we will get back to you within one business day.
